When, Where, How?

Census questionnaires will be delivered to each household in March 2010. Between April and July 2010, Census takers will visit households that did not return the census form by mail.

What’s on the Census Form?

Asking just 10 questions of all residents (one of the shortest census questionnaires in U.S. history), the 2010 Census form will take most households about 10 minutes to complete. These questions were submitted to Congress for approval in March 2007.

Where Are the Local Census Offices?

Local census offices (LCOs) manage the collection process in each region. When the Census forms are mailed out, there is much work to do to ensure that the post office, local leaders, and group quarters institutions are informed and also counted.  There is also the issue of following up for nonresponding households, which takes quite a few employees to go door-to-door.  The staffing of the LCOs begins relatively small and then increases as time goes on, peaking around mid-March through late May.
